Downloading a transcript from one video is easy enough to do manually. Downloading transcripts from 50, 200, or 1,000 videos is a completely different problem. At that scale, the manual approach — opening each video, finding the transcript, copying it, cleaning it up — stops being tedious and starts being genuinely impossible to maintain as a workflow.
Bulk transcript downloading solves this by processing multiple videos simultaneously rather than sequentially. Instead of your work scaling linearly with the number of videos, large collections get processed in parallel and finish in minutes regardless of size.
The tool accepts three types of input for bulk extraction:
The speed comes from parallel processing. When you submit a channel with 500 videos, the tool doesn't fetch video 1, then video 2, then video 3 in sequence. It runs requests concurrently in batches, which dramatically cuts the total time.
In practice: a 100-video channel typically finishes in about 60-90 seconds. A 1,000-video channel usually takes 3-6 minutes. Compare that to the 8+ hours it would take to do the same thing manually.
This feature gets used heavily by a few specific types of users:
For a bulk download, you typically get a downloadable archive organized by video. Each transcript is clearly labeled with the video title and ID. You can choose whether to get individual files per video or a combined file with everything together — useful for different downstream workflows.
Format options include plain TXT (for reading and editing), JSON with timestamps and metadata (for developers and data pipelines), and LLM-ready format (optimized for feeding into AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude).
Bulk downloading only works for publicly available videos with captions. Private videos, unlisted videos without public access, and videos where the creator has disabled captions won't be included. The tool shows you clearly which videos it could and couldn't fetch, so you know exactly what's in your download.
Caption availability varies by channel. Most established educational, commentary, or instructional channels have auto-captions on 80-95% of their videos. Very old content, music channels, and channels in languages without good auto-caption support will have lower coverage.
